What Our Alumni Have Been Doing
In tribute to former counselors and counselor trainers Barbara and Mary Beitzel,
alumnus Juanita Barrena gathered photos and audio clips and created a DVD of the
birdsongs that remain so much a part of the Trail Blazers tradition. Many of the
original songs were written by the Beitzel sisters who left a rich legacy to the
Trail Blazers family through the songs they created, sang, and played at camp.
The DVD serves to preserve the tradition of song at camp and also to encourage
donations in the sisters’ names to Trail Blazers in support of small-group
living experiences in the outdoors, nature education activities, and
preservation of natural resources and historical buildings at Trail Blazers.
Alumni Spotlight
At Camp
Trail Blazers is honored to welcome alumnus Bill Mitchell—summer after
summer—for a long stay at camp while he helps our property manager complete the
many awesome tasks that keep our buildings and property in the best possible
shape. Bill takes little time to rest, but when he does, he keeps busy spreading
Trail Blazers traditions to our staff and even celebrated his birthday with us.
We thank Bill for his invaluable help over the years and hope to see him back
for many years to come!
In the New York City Office
After retiring, one of Trail Blazers’ most active alumnus and board members,
Anna Krassy, generously offered to spend time helping out in our office during
the year. Anna not only takes a lot of work off our hands, but also
shares with us bits of her years as a counselor through photos, arts and crafts,
and stories.
